NORTH VALLEY LA COUNTY CARES MENTORING MOVEMENT
an Affiliate of the National CARES Mentoring Movement
National CARES Mentoring Movement (National CARES), is the largest and most highly regarded national organization in the Black mentoring arena serving our vulnerable youth. National CARES was founded in 2005, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, as Essence CARES. We looked up then, as the world did, at all the vulnerable youngsters who, as much as anything, needed the love, guidance and support of able and caring adults.
The North Valley LA County CARES Mentoring Movement (NVLACC), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in partnership with the National CARES and began its journey in 2011 with a visit from Susan L. Taylor to the Antelope Valley community (known as the "Forgotten City"). This journey started with a community call to the Faith Based Churches of the need for mentors. The call was answered by Gwendolynne Cole creating the 36th of 58 Affiliate the NVLACC formerly named Antelope Valley CARES Mentoring Movement in the United States.
Our more than 140,000 mentors has touched the lives of over 200,000 youth through the local CARES Affiliate Leaders across our 58 U.S. cities network devoted to advancing our youth who are isolated and sometimes written off by society. We are writing them in!

Our Core Programs
Recruiting Mentors
To Save A Generation
National CARES created the local CARES Mentor-Recruitment Circles, a network of leaders who work with unbounded love and is recruiting to COLLECT willing and able men and women, CONNECT with them to inspire and often train them, and DIRECT these adults to local mentoring programs and in some cities to the group-mentoring, academic-enrichment pilots we are building with our partners.
Community Wellness Circles
New Way Forward: Healing What's Hurting Black America
In 2018, National CARES launched Community Wellness and Wealth-Building Circles: healing gatherings through which we are deepening our reach into struggling African American Communities. These Community Circles provides a safe place for reflection and connection, where our mentors and other community leaders can learn to relieve their debilitating stress too many of us shrod in silence.
Rising Program:
Elevating Education, Expectations and Self Esteem
Rising is our signature group mentoring program, a consciousness-changing protocol that is being demonstrated at exceedingly challenged high schools.
The program transforms the lives of children trapped in intergenerational poverty by engaging them in an exciting, culturally anchored curriculum that is executed by trained psychologists, other wellness professionals and mentors.
